After weeks of disputes and drama, Anthony Cunningham has stepped down as Galway senior hurling manager tonight. Following weeks of failed mediation talks, The Galway hurlers voted against bringing back the man who brought them to the 2015 All-Ireland final with a panel voting 23-9 against his return.
Galway clubs re-appointed Cunningham shortly after the All-Ireland final loss to Kilkenny in September, but they are now forced to re-visit that decision next Monday night at a county board meeting or this was the case until tonight. Anthony has stepped down ahead of the meeting before the clubs had their say.
Suggestions for a new Galway manager are rumoured to be club manager Mattie Kenny as he has managed the Dublin club to a Leinster final against Wexford natives Oulart the Ballagh.
