A personal tally of 0-13 from Siobhan Flannery ensured St.Rynaghs reserved their spot in the Offaly Camogie senior county final against Shinrone after a six point victory over Tullamore in Rath on Sunday morning last.
Siobhan Flannery commanded the opening minutes of the game hitting 0-4 while Tullamore’s Lisa Gorman and Ali Dooley did their best to keep their side in touch hitting a point a piece. That period of dominance was short-lived when Tullamore counteracted this momentum by tactically switching Ali Dooley and Natalie McCabe in the middle third. For next seven minutes Tullamore ruled the game, Ali Dooley and Laura Walsh found the net along with further points from Dooley and Katie Troy pushed the 2014 intermediate champions 0-8 ahead with the wind with 20 minutes played.
St.Rynaghs reduced ‘The Blues’ lead to two with 3 minutes remaining before the break after a series of Flannery points along with the help of Grainne Dolan and fresh from her American return Mairead Daly also firing between the posts.
It was a very much so one sided encounter in the second half as Tullamore could only source 1-1 from Katie Molloy and Laura Walsh throughout the duration of the second half. Mairead Daly found the back off the net almost immediately after the restart from a Siobhan Flannery free which dropped inside the small square where the corner forward flicked the ball by keeper Shannon Touhey.
St.Rynagh’s may have been missing inter-county player Linda Sullivan to injury but the blue and yellow side kept a number of Tullamore attacks at baywith Aoife McLoughin and Elaine Sullivan always on hand to clear their lines. The future of Offaly camogie is very bright as both sides boasted underage talent. Grainne Dolan, Aoife McLoughlin and Sarah Walsh really stood up the mark to take responsibility for their teams. Seven points without answer in the final 10 minutes from Aoife McLoughlin, Siobhan Flannery and Grainne Dolan put the final nail in the coffin to end Tullamore’s camogie year. St.Rynaghs now march on to face Shinrone in the Offaly senior camogie final on October 11th in St.Brendans Park Birr at 2:45pm.
