There will be new county champions in Offaly this weekend as St.Rynaghs are on the hunt for their first ever title while Shinrone will be looking to put their name on the Offaly senior camogie cup once again since 2013. The last time the sides met was in the group stages where Shinrone ran out comfortable winners on a score line of Shinrone 4-15 St. Rynaghs 2-07.
Shinrone go into this final unbeaten having won all of their four group games. In a replay of last year’s county final Shinrone defeated Birr with ease in the opening round this year by 17 points. Shinrone then defeated Lusmagh/Drumcullen but ran a close encounter in their final round against Tullamore only beaten the 2015 semi-finalists by three points back in July.
St.Rynaghs have also won all of their games with the exception of Shinrone. In their opening round St.Rynaghs defeated Tullamore on a high scoring game of St. Rynagh’s 5-12 Tullamore 6-06. Lusmagh/Drumcullen then fell victim to the St.Rynaghs side after an eight point victory at the end of July. St.Rynaghs then came out on top of the 2014 county champions Birr by six points to be rewarded a semi-final position.
At the weekend Shinrone played Birr in the first of the two semi-finals. In a very tight affair Shinrone eventually prevailed after a Michelle Davis goal deep in the second half of injury time to return to the county final once again. Siobhan Flannery ran riot in Rath on Sunday morning hitting 0-13 of 1-18 for her side. With both sides plentiful of young talent the final which throws in at 2:45pm sure to be an intense, skilful and entertaining final.
The Intermediate final between Lusmagh/Drumcullen and Kinnitty at 1pm will be the curtain raiser for the main event at 2:45pm in St.Brendan’s Park Birr.
