Nightmare double clash for dual players this weekend.

Cork and Clare dual stars are set to choose who to play for this weekend as round five of the camogie championship clashes with LGFA Munster finals.

It is not an uncommon feature of the female GAA world as fixture clashes have also occurred in 2010 and 2009 with players choosing which game to player or racing from one pitch to another across the country. Cork, who are hoping to win their 10th All-Ireland title in 11 seasons could be without  key players Rena Buckley, Briege Corkery and Meabh Cahalane for the Munster final. Cork who are set to play Kerry at 6pm in Mallow in the LGFA Munster final are also fixed to play Offaly in round four of the Camogie championship in  Páirc Uí Rinn at 2pm. Buckley and Corkery are expected to play a part in both of the games given the games are located in the neighbouring county.

Football manager Eamonn Ryan spoke about how players are forced to go to extreme lengths to be the best players they can be.

“we’ve had players flying [in their cars] from Athenry to Castletownroche, after playing one match. At this stage, you just get on with it. It’s just extraordinary – and that’s the most charitable word I can think of at the moment.”

Clare ladies footballers also have a tough decision to make Saturday evening, the camogie players are facing Dublin while the footballers have a chance of silverware against Waterford in the Intermediate football final. With a number of players facing a difficult task this weekend, here’s hoping the issue will be resolved for future games.
