Offaly Ladies beat Wicklow and weather

Offaly ladies footballers continued their winning streak in round three of division four of the National League after overcoming Wicklow in Wicklow last weekend.

Offaly 2-16 to Wicklow 1-1

Playing in terrible conditions of snow and wind the faithful girls comfortably won the game making it two wins out of two so far. (R1:Offaly 8-19 1-4 Derry, R2: vs Louth called off due to unplayable pitch) Mairead Daly, Ladies Football Junior Footballer of the Year 2013 and goal of the year nominee 2013 returned for her first start for Offaly since the 2013 junior final vs Wexford.  Offaly played with the wind in the first half kicking 0-7 over the black spot with points from Aoife Norris, Elle McEvoy, Roisin Egan, Mairead Daly (0-2) and Aoife Corbett (0-2) to Wicklow’s single point.

The strong wind did not phase the Offaly ladies as second half scores from Mairead Daly (0-2), Rachel Bryant (0-2) and Aoife Corbett pushed the midlanders further ahead. Mairead Daly found the net in the 40th minute with two quick fire points following from Roisin Egan and sharpshooter Aoife Corbett. Wicklow answered with a second half goal but this was their only score in the second half.

Offaly now play Antrim on Sunday March 15th and with a very strong minor presence the future of Offaly ladies is extremely bright.

Scores: Aoife Norris 0-1, Mairead Daly 1-4, Roisin Egan 0-2, Aoife Corbett 0-5, Elle McEvoy 1-2, Rachel Bryant 0-2
