Galway may leave the Leinster hurling championship

At the Galway hurling committee meeting last night, Chairman Joe Byrne threatened Galway’s position in the Leinster hurling championship in the future. His comments come after Leinster council turned down Galway’s u21 and minor applications to play in the Leinster hurling championship at each level.

“The message to both Leinster Council and Croke Park is clear from the Galway hurling community. Either all our teams are in Leinster or none,”

As of 2015, a Galway intermediate team has been entered to the Leinster championship and minor and u21 are the only Galway sides not in the Leinster hurling champions.

The Galway chairman also requested more funding to the Galway hurling committee as they recieved  €20,000 this year.
